heat wave

The heat wave hit just as we left on our
work/shopping/reunion trip. My advice:
don't travel with two dogs and a teenager
in August.

I'm wiped out - too pooped to plog, er, blog,
so here's some photos to hold you over:

I Like my Hair

Back from Boise with a new haircut!

I was very excited to come across Graeber and
Co
in downtown Boise. They take walk ins, have
reasonable prices and the salon itself is gorgeous.

Alison, a very cute redhead, cut my hair and was
patient with my vague description of what I wanted.
My hair looks better than I imagined - especially
the way Alison styled it. I have tried to do the
same but have no skills (or no patience) with a blow
dryer. Still, I’m very happy with it.

Had a nice breakfast at Moon’s Kitchen Cafe -
homestyle cooking with a great old-fashion waitress
and comfortable setting.

Also attended the conference, bought my daughter
a cute shirt at Lux Lounge and enjoyed the pleasant
downtown area until the heat got to me.

Boise’s a nice town - in the Fall, Winter and Spring,
but after living in Moscow I don’t know if I can ever
live in a place with high chico-esque temperatures
again.

Headed South

Tomorrow I head down to Boise to see
clients and attend a conference. I'll
also be stopping in McCall Idaho to pick
up some yarn at one of my favorite stores.

Keep Me In Stitches is a small but well
supplied yarn store. It's located on
136 E. Lake Street and has a gorgeous supply
of natural yarns.

Everytime I go, there are nice people sitting
inside working on some sort of project and
chatting. Just the store I need at this time
of year to get inspired for fall & winter
projects.

Non-Chewable Tin Can Garden

When I added Seamus to our family I forgot one
very important thing about puppies: they chew
on everything. All of our furniture has chew
marks. Seamus used to pull books off our shelves
to chew on until I turned them to the walls for
protection. He even chews the plants and trees
in the front yard.

So my gardening habit has been severely curtailed
this year. Until I read about tin can gardens
here.

So last weekend I painted and planted and posted
the cans up on the fence, high enough to be un-
reachable by Seamus. Here's some photos:

Road Trip

Tomorrow I have to go to Kettle Falls Washington for
work and I have decided to take Nosey Flynn with me.

Nosey hasn’t been getting very much attention since
Seamus came to live with us. So Nosey and I will be
taking a road trip and Seamus will stay home with Del
and get to be top dog for awhile.

I’m looking forward to it. I always like seeing new towns
and different scenery and Nosey is an excellent companion
who never complains about my music choices.

Does Independence Have to be Noisy?

Fourth of July - my least favorite holiday
because it is usually hot (though only 80
or so here today) and it upsets my dogs.

Here’s a few pointers for how to deal
with fireworks and dogs. My plan is to
sleep with the bedroom fan on high for
the noise and the door closed so the dogs
can’t here them.

Long and Winding Road

So tomorrow I have to go to Weippe Idaho for
work. I've been there once before. It's very
pretty! But man oh man, the drive there is
a bit scary. You take Highway 11 as shown below:

(You may have to move the map a bit to see the
whole winding mess.)

Ok, so that looks a bit wavy. What it doesn't
show is how incredibly steep the whole thing
is. The elevation of Greer, Idaho where Hwy 11
starts is 1102. The elevation of Weippe is 3020.

My prep for my trip to Weippe reminded me that I have
yet to tell you about the secret Jacobite community on
the way there. I plan to take more photos tomorrow
and will tell you about the town of Fraser in
the next post.
